Abwaab, a Jordan-based eLearning platform, has raised $20 million in a Series A fundraising round, following a $5 million seed round that concluded earlier this year.

The startup creates content that is suited to the local curriculum, covering gaps in online educational resources while also addressing the region’s significant reliance on offline tutoring. Students can use their web and native applications to participate in lessons, receive comments, and join discussion forums.

Claiming to have grown by tenfold in the number of active users throughout the 20/21 academic year. The abwaab has acquired Pakistani ed-tech startup Edmatrix, earlier this year. Aiming to expand its services in the MENAP region, which encompasses over 160M students, the startup will use these funds to make learning more accessible, affordable and fun, by creating a full ecosystem that alters the way students study while also arming them with the tools they need to succeed in life.
