Apple is gearing up to bring new customization features in the expected iOS 18.2, that will enable the users across globe to select default apps for voicing and messaging, which was restricted to the EU only.
iPhone’s latest upgrade iOS 18.2 is set to unveil new ways of iPhone customization to all users –people can now change default phone and messaging apps. At first, it appeared the changes were limited to EU markets that could only be owned by regulations, but now people in the US and other countries will also benefit from such opportunities.
iOS 18.2 Now Allows You to Edit App Associations: Apple again extends the option for changing default apps – the menu now includes options for browsers, email, phone calls, and messaging. It used to be less available across markets outside the EU such options. This development makes iPhones more universal and easier to use thus eradicating the distinction between a US and an EU iPhone.
European Union regulations are the main cause of Apple’s rising flexibility, which concerns, for example, the availability of the RCS service, additional app stores, and others. Although most of these changes had been initiated by the EU, iOS 18.2 guarantees that users across the globe receive such upgrades.
By extending these choices around the world, Apple can maintain product homogeneity, and every single iPhone user can have a better and more personalized experience in their own country. This speaks to the second way in which Apple is increasing its layers of responsive regulation, and also improving user agency and optionality in a more general way.
