Leading international sports nutrition startup Maurten, renowned for its endurance fuel products, has completed a funding round of €20 million.
International growth equity fund IRIS Ventures led the round, focusing on innovative next-generation consumer offerings. Current investors, such as Dan Sten Olsson, CEO of Stena Sphere, also participated in the round.
The goal of the Maurten sports fuel ecosystem is to find solutions for the real issues limiting athletic performance. Athletes can reconsider the boundaries of carbohydrate fuelling because of the brand’s patented hydrogel technology, which is utilized in its drink mixes, gels, and ground-breaking Maurten Bicarb System. The performances are the evidence. World records, gold medals, and world championships are examples of exceptional accomplishments that have redefined human capability globally, rather than just amateur personal bests.
Maurten invests significantly in research-driven development, ensuring innovative solutions and product advancements rely on reliable findings, and questioning the status quo when necessary. Maurten integrates athlete feedback from real-world scenarios with that science-led approach to keep ahead of the rapidly evolving endurance landscape. This dedication makes it possible for a vision to look for options outside of athletics. The Swedish company currently has two major goals: expanding female-specific fueling research and investigating how Hydrogel Technology could help the medical field. Further, the impact of IRIS Ventures will contribute to this expansion’s acceleration.
Olof Sköld, the CEO and founder of Maurten, stated:
“This is a significant occasion that enhances the variety of our board. There is no doubt that our goals to bring our innovations to new markets and industries will be greatly aided by having access to the knowledge and network of the female-founded Iris Ventures, as well as their in-depth knowledge of the sports culture scene.”
According to Florian Wojewodzki, a partner at IRIS Ventures:
“Elite endurance athletes are extremely selective about what they consume because fuel is so mission-critical to performance. Credibility is essential. Professional athletes who use Maurten’s goods attest to their effectiveness and the company’s unwavering focus on innovation. We are excited to work with Maurten and look forward to supporting their next stage of expansion.”
Montse Suarez, Founder and Managing Partner of IRIS Ventures, said:
“Maurten is a game changer and has, from the outset, redefined athletic performance through world-class innovation in the sports nutrition category, seamlessly marrying product excellence with brand uniqueness and edge. Moreover, the business regularly fulfills its lofty goals, and we are excited to work with Olof and his team.”
