Apple Maps Web Launch: A New Giant to Google Maps

Find in detail how the new web view of Apple Map plans to take on Google Maps. Discover what the software is, learn about its compatible systems, and explore the planned updates in this well-written guide.

Introduction:

Apple has covered the distance to compete with Google as they have recently introduced an Apple Maps web version. This is the largest expansion since the original launch of the Apple Maps more than ten years ago.

Apple Maps Goes Web-Based:

Apple says, that the Maps can now be accessed on the web at beta.maps.apple.com. The available services include getting driving/walking directions, ratings/reviews, city browsing, and business information all through the use of a desktop/mobile browser.

Features and Accessibility:

The Apple Map web version includes many features from the iPhone version of the application. Customers could watch guides, make an order, and even discover the cities. Some options, such as Look Around, are expected to be added in the following months, Apple reports. At the present moment, it operates with Safari and Chrome on Mac and iPad as well as Chrome and Edge on Windows computers. Further, Apple will add newer languages and improve browser compatibility in the future.

Competition and Expansion:

The official web release of Apple Maps aims to increase its market share against Google, justifying the need for this development. Before now, developers have incorporated Apple Maps into web apps through the use of API from Apple. This increases its usage capabilities and positions it well to compete in the market.

Open-Source Alternatives:

Overture Maps Foundation funded by Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft has released the first mapping dataset for developers. This is an open-source undertaking whose major focus is to rival both Apple Maps and Google Maps by offering free map data for application development.

Conclusion:

Apple Maps’ current release as a web service aims to rival Google directly. Moreover, it is capable of growing stronger in the future with more features and platform support within the web maps. Apple plans to roll out more updates and new features soon, showing its commitment to improving its mapping service.
