Berlin-based AI Training App TRAIT Raises €1M for Empathetic Runner Support

Berlin-based, AI Training app TRAIT, previously twaiv, has raised €1 million in a seed funding round.

The round was led by HTGF, the angel club better ventures, and other private investors.

The fresh money will help the company develop its AI training platform further, to give runners a more individualized and compassionate training environment.

The purpose of the Berlin-based firm is to assist individuals in reaching their fitness objectives and leading more sustainably active and satisfying lives. The company’s core value is combining a sense of community with science-based instruction. According to the team’s research, people weren’t succeeding because there weren’t enough statistics or exercises, but rather because their plans weren’t flexible enough or they lacked the support system when they needed it. TRAIT addresses these two crucial challenges to keep everyone on track when life gets in the way.

The startup has relaunched its running training app under the new name TRAIT. The app’s previous iteration saw notable growth, with downloads rising by 178% yearly, thanks to its persuasive use of highly customized running training regimens and a virtual coach. The group led by founders Raphael Jung and Matthias Ettrich hopes to expand on this by offering runners even more specialized assistance. Before relaunching under the name TRAIT in July 2024, the company operated under the brand twaiv from 2021 to 2024, concentrating on AI-generated, adaptive training regimens.

Raphael Jung, CEO of TRAIT, stated:

“With TRAIT, we have developed an app that is as empathetic and understanding as a human coach would be. We help people return to sports by integrating genuine social support with AI training and sports science. With the backing of HTGF, better ventures’ business angels, and other private investors, we are ready to transform how people view fitness.”

With the help of the seed money, TRAIT can now fulfill its goal of creating a training environment that is both adaptive and sympathetic, with an emphasis on the runners’ overall well-being in addition to performance. The founders seek to emphasize the value of social support and human interaction to establish a new industry standard.

Johannes Dierkes, Investment Manager at HTGF, said:

“We are excited about TRAIT’s vision and approach to creating an empathetic and adaptive AI training platform for athletes. It is intended to fortify people psychologically as well as physically.”
