Progress of Optimus Robots project by Tesla

Tesla displayed Optimus robots during the presentation at the Cybercab optimistic event, but humans were involved in its operation. Read more about the existing capabilities of the robot.

But the real show-stealer at Tesla’s Cybercab event has been its robot, Optimus. Some of them had to mix with the commoners, bring them beverages, perform some jests, and dance. One of the most shocking things I thought the robots were speaking responding to questions with gestures that corresponded with what they said.

It was a mesmerizing performance, but, significantly, human involvement remains a major factor in the attempt to present the robots as much more independent as they probably are in reality. Some of the participants mentioned that the robots need support from other devices. While they could walk and engage in conversation using AI systems, their answers often resembled human dictation. This stemmed from differences in robot voices and the highly synchronized actions that impressed the audience.

What Tesla failed to do, however, was provide a clear message to its guests about the present development state of the Optimus robots. Some robots went as far as making jokes about not being fully self-sufficient maybe due to impedance. Still, the spectacular show did not reveal substantial progress in Tesla’s humanoid robotics development. It was more of a show than an exhibition of innovative ideas to solve some of the existing problems that technology can fix.

Where Does Optimus Stand?

There were certain ambiguities about how far progressed the Optimus robots developed by Tesla are in the wake of the Cybercab event. Their current functioning relies on human input, demonstrating that they still have a long way to go before achieving autonomous operation. For now, Optimus stays both a demonstration of modern robotics and a helping hand with humanoid assistance, indicating something that is yet to take place.
